Helping us towards a carbon neutral festival

Welcome to Polar Subcamp!

A complex ecosystem, our polar regions are full of abundant nutrients feeding creatures from penguins to blue whales

Polar

Elevate new and extreme experiences!

The vastness of Polar means life on your subcamp will provide you with the extremities of culturally diverse experiences. May the spirit of adventure, camaraderie, and discovery in Polar Subcamp inspire you, and wherever your Festival path carries you, with the many Scouts and Guides from around the world, it will be an unforgettable experience.

About

Welcome to Polar Subcamp

Penguins attention!

Penguins salute!

Have you ever seen a penguin come to tea?

The team have run events from smaller section and group ones to larger District and County events. We've also led County International trips as well as previously attending or working at UK International camps such as KIJ and, as such, everyone of us is pleased to be on the Polar Subcamp.

As a subcamp we’ll be doing our best to bring the poles to KIJ’s Festival of Scouting – snowball fights, sledge racing and ski slaloms and, of course, bring your penguins to tea.

As Scout and Guide leaders the team know how much you will have invested to come along to KIJ, and we will do all we can to ensure you have best of experiences whilst with us.

Embark on an unforgettable adventure in the Polar region of our festival!

From sunrise fun to evening concerts under the stars, there's never a dull moment at the Polar Subcamp!

The Penguin

The majority of living penguin species have declining populations. According to the IUCN Red List, their conservation statuses range from Concern through to Endangered.
The word penguin first appears in literature at the end of the 16th century as a synonym for the great auk. When European explorers discovered what are today known as penguins in the Southern Hemisphere. They spend half their life on land and half their life in water.
At our festival you will have the opportunity to learn about Quest - a UK Scout initiative that has already undertaken projects at the South Pole and is now embarking on an ecological journey to the North Pole.
